Doubtful promotion of internet celebrity shampoo soap for 5
The popular "herbal anti shedding" shampoo on mainland e-commerce platforms has recently been exposed to have a discrepancy between its promotion and reality. Some products are marketed as "deep mountain medicinal herbs" and "handmade by ancient methods", and are actually mass-produced by factories. A popular shampoo priced at 39.9 yuan, the OEM quotation for bulk orders is only about 5 yuan.
According to a report by Blue Whale News on July 9th, the self media review "Dad Review" purchased 9 shampoo soaps that focus on "herbal anti shedding" and "mild and non irritating".
In the promotion of related products, the leaves of Platycodon grandiflorus are packaged by merchants as the core material for preventing hair loss and used as the main selling point. The evaluation team therefore used the iconic component of Quercetin in Platycodon grandiflorus leaves as the detection indicator. According to the methods listed in the pharmacopoeia, quercetin was not detected in all 9 samples; After switching to more sensitive methods, there are still 5 products that have not been detected.
However, on product pages and live streaming rooms, some merchants still claim that their products can "prevent hair loss", "strengthen hair roots", and even "double hair volume", but have not provided corresponding efficacy evidence.
The test results also showed that 6 out of 9 products tested positive for Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). The evaluation team said that this ingredient has strong cleaning and foaming abilities, as well as high irritability.
According to reports, some businesses use "natural and mild" and "no bay alcohol" as selling points in their promotions, and even remind consumers not to use hair care products containing related ingredients. However, SLS has been detected in the shampoo soap they sell.
On e-commerce comment sections and complaint platforms, some consumers have reported experiencing scalp itching, increased dandruff, and dry hair after use, while others say that hair loss has worsened.
According to a survey by mainland media, many businesses create the impression of "natural handmade" through images of mountains, forests, herbs, and iron pot cooking, but many similar products actually come from OEM assembly lines. Some brand customer service representatives claim that their products have not been registered as cosmetics, but still use promotional slogans such as "anti leakage hair". According to current regulations in mainland China, products claiming to have anti hair loss effects should be managed as special cosmetics and registered.
The quotation and retail price of these mass-produced products differ significantly. Taking the "Seven Green" brand as an example, its related shampoo soap is priced at 39.9 yuan per piece, and the platform shows an annual sales volume of over 1 million yuan. The OEM quotation shows that when ordering 5000 pieces, each piece costs about 5 yuan, and when ordering 10000 pieces, it drops to about 4.7 yuan. The price of similar internet famous shampoo in mainland China is mostly between 30 yuan and 60 yuan.
A practitioner in the washing and care industry said that after adding SLS, essence and pigment to ordinary industrial soap base, the material cost can be controlled at about 1.5 yuan; If sufficient herbal extracts such as Platycodon grandiflorus leaves are added, the material cost is usually 3 to 5 yuan, plus labor, packaging, and testing costs, the normal factory price is about 5 to 10 yuan. Based on the current selling price of 30 to 60 yuan per piece, even if the cost is 5 yuan, the profit margin is still relatively large.
