Bangkok, October 2 (Xinhua) -- The Public Relations Department of the Prime Minister's Office of Thailand announced on the 2nd that Prime Minister Anuntin stated after a meeting of the National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Command that all departments should be prepared to cope with the possible increase in rainfall from October 5, especially focusing on the southern region of Thailand.

Anutin said that we should continue to track the situation in various regions, mobilize forces to carry out drainage, post disaster recovery, and rescue work, and prepare in advance for the possible increase in rainfall in the southern region.

According to data released by the Thai Department of Disaster Prevention and Reduction on the 2nd, as of 6:00 am that day, 31 provinces in the country were still affected by floods, involving 179 counties, 1279 townships, and 9339 villages, including Bangkok; The affected population is approximately 1.246 million households and 3.535 million people. The water level in some affected areas has started to decline.

Anutin requires all regions to prepare in advance for a new round of rainfall, including deploying personnel and machinery, storing food, daily necessities, and medicine, and preparing temporary shelters and emergency plans.

The Thai Meteorological Agency issued a forecast on the 2nd stating that thunderstorms and strong winds will occur in northern, northeastern, central, Bangkok and surrounding areas, as well as some eastern regions of Thailand from the 4th to the 7th. There may also be strong rainfall in some southern areas from the 5th to the 7th.

Anutin stated that although the current flood situation has improved, all departments still need to maintain sustained response capabilities and strengthen monitoring of weather and water conditions. Once floods occur in other areas, resources should be quickly mobilized and joint rescue efforts should be carried out. (End)
