Trump Returns to Kennedy Center? The US court rejected it ag
A federal circuit appellate court in the United States upheld a lower court ruling on the 8th, once again rejecting President Trump's request to temporarily retain his name in the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts name, and requesting that it not be restored for display during the relevant appeal period.
A three member panel of judges from the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, including a judge appointed by Trump, rejected an urgent request from the Trump administration and the Kennedy Center Board of Directors.
Trump argued that removing Trump's name would hinder fundraising for the Kennedy Center and exacerbate its financial difficulties. The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals stated that these claims lack specific factual or evidential support. However, the court emphasized that the latest ruling does not involve the merits of the "renaming dispute", and Trump's appeal can continue.
The White House has not yet responded to this ruling.
Last December, the new board of directors of the Kennedy Center, which was reorganized by Trump, decided to add Trump's name to the name of this cultural center. Board member and Democratic federal Congressman Joyce Beatty subsequently filed a lawsuit, demanding the revocation of the renaming decision and the removal of Trump's name.
In May of this year, the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia ruled that the name of the Kennedy Center cannot be changed without congressional approval and ordered the removal of Trump's name. Afterwards, the relevant signs were removed from the exterior walls and signage of the center. Trump subsequently urgently requested a suspension of the ruling, but it was rejected by the court in mid June.
The CNN report on the ruling of the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals shows that Trump's name has been removed from the exterior walls of the Kennedy Center, but the walls are still covered with waterproof cloth and the scaffolding has not been removed. Some American media say that this is to wait for the outcome of the appeal.
Betty issued a statement on the 8th stating that the ruling of the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals once again confirms that the Trump administration's attempt to rename the Kennedy Center was "illegal".
