US Attorney General elect Blanche attends congressional nomi
Washington, July 15th (Xinhua) - US Attorney General elect Todd Blanche attended the nomination hearing held by the Senate Judiciary Committee on the 15th local time.
Blanche is 51 years old and has served as the personal lawyer for US President Trump, involved in defending multiple criminal cases involving Trump. After Trump takes office as president in 2025, Blanche will serve as Deputy Attorney General. On April 2nd, Trump announced that Bundy would no longer serve as Attorney General and that Blanche would take on the role of Acting Secretary. On June 8th, Trump officially nominated Blanche as Attorney General.
At the nomination hearing that day, Blanche's relationship with Trump became the focus of attention for lawmakers. Several Democratic lawmakers are concerned that Blanche's previous status as Trump's personal lawyer may affect his impartiality as Attorney General.
Regarding this, Blanche said, "Trump trusts me and will listen to my advice, but that doesn't mean I will listen to all of his opinions.
When asked if he was "friends" with Trump, Blanche said, "I am his lawyer," and then changed his statement to "I used to be his lawyer.
Blanche also said, "In recent years, the Department of Justice has repeatedly targeted some of you and a former president, which has damaged public confidence in the Department of Justice. We are trying to reverse this situation.
According to US media reports, the Senate Judiciary Committee includes 11 Republican lawmakers and 10 Democratic lawmakers. Therefore, Blanche's nomination can only be approved with the support of all Republican lawmakers.
Republican Senator John Cornyn stated after the hearing that he has not decided whether to vote for Blanche. (End)
