Russia claims that the chief engineer of Zaporizhzhia Nuclea
Moscow, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Alexei Likhachev, CEO of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, said on the 15th that Ukrainian armed forces used drones to attack an official vehicle around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant park early that day, causing the death of Alexander Yakovlev, the chief engineer of the plant, and the driver of the vehicle.
Likhachev stated that Yakovlev died in a "targeted terrorist attack" launched by the Ukrainian side. He stated that in the past two and a half months, Ukrainian attacks have resulted in 13 deaths and 48 injuries in the area, posing a threat of large-scale nuclear accidents in Russia, Ukraine, and much of Europe.
In a statement, Likhachev stated that Russia is requesting a "timely, specific, and clear response" from the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding this incident.
Yevgeny Balitskyi, the appointed governor of Zaporizhzhia region by Russia, stated that the Ukrainian armed forces launched an "unprecedented" drone attack on the region, with most of the drones destroyed. He stated that the relevant departments in the region are making every effort to ensure the local supply of electricity, fuel, and food.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova stated on social media that Russia has requested the International Atomic Energy Agency and other relevant international organizations to issue a "clear and explicit condemnation statement" regarding this incident. (End)
