Xi sends congratulatory letter to Jilin University on its 80

BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, sent a congratulatory letter to Jilin University on Sept. 16, celebrating its 80th founding anniversary.

Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, has extended congratulations to the faculty, students and alumni of the university in Jilin Province, northeastern China.

In the letter, Xi stressed the hope that at the new starting point, Jilin University would take the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as the guidance, carry on the revolutionary traditions, give full play to its comprehensive advantages, and focus on the country's strategic needs.

The university should keep optimizing its curriculum and majors, strengthen its teaching and research capacity, strive to cultivate more high-caliber talent, and make greater contributions to advancing the full revitalization of the Northeast in the new era and Chinese modernization, Xi said.

Jilin University was founded in 1946. Over the past 80 years, it has been carrying forward fine traditions and adhering to reform and innovation, thus nurturing large groups of talented workforce for varied sectors of the country.
