Kinshasa, July 8 (Xinhua) -- The latest epidemic report released by the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of Congo on July 8 shows that the country has reported a total of 1759 confirmed cases of Ebola in this round, including 600 deaths.
According to the report, as of now, the epidemic has mainly affected three provinces, namely, the provinces of Burundi, North Kivu, and South Kivu. There have been a total of 285 cured cases, and currently 750 patients are in isolation or hospitalized for treatment.
The report states that the number of hospital beds in relevant medical institutions in the three provinces is approaching saturation. Among them, institutions in North Kivu province are under significant pressure, with a bed occupancy rate exceeding 100%.
The report also stated that the capital of Jopo Province, Kinshasa, reported two positive cases of Ebola virus polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing. One of the cases is related to the province of Burundi, while the other case has not yet been found to have an epidemiological association with areas outside of Kinshasa. The report states that relevant review tests and further epidemiological investigations are underway. These two cases have not yet been included in the national cumulative number of cases.
Qiaobo Province is adjacent to the provinces of Ito and North Kivu, and Kinshasa is an important commercial city and transportation hub in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
